This is a true beach home built in a socially responsible manner. This is the first home certified by the US Green Building Council. It received a Silver LEED for Homes Certification. Located just two blocks from the ocean and within walking distance to shops and restaurants, this home is built for the environment, intended for generations to enjoy. Step inside to serenity. The wood planked walls highlight the exceptional pine flooring, which came from a local monastery, nail holes and all. The gas sconces flank the sides of the gas fireplace with simple mantle featuring a stunning oil painting. Bookcases with wood walls behind feature years of sea shell collections, sea glass, wicker baskets and other beach finds. The custom made dining room table fits beautifully and the gas sconces surrounding it add charm and elegance. The kitchen features a gorgeous soapstone countertop with a coffered ceiling and tumbled marble backsplash. Transom window are above the shaker style doors to add light as well as character. The porches all contain hanging lanterns and comfortable furniture. The den is covered with wood planked walls and framed maps with white slip covered furniture. The master bedroom is simple and practical and the bath features marble floors and a large marble shower with custom shower door. Upstairs you will find three more bedrooms, a sitting room and a built in area for reading. The grandchildren’s bedroom is covered in pine and stained natural, reminiscent of old pine walls in traditional beach houses. The yoga room is outfitted with a recycled rubber floor. During construction, 90% of all material was used and 96% was recycled. All framing waste was sorted, recycled and turned to mulch. The home has Energy Star® appliances and is Energy Star®rated. The hardipanel exterior is a green product made of cement and the paint is all Low VOC paint. The house is insulated with a closed cell spray foam insulation as well as a BATT insulation. High efficiency gas furnaces and tankless hot water heaters we also installed. Air loss is less than 6% and was tested using a blower door test. All wood materials came from sustainable forests and 90% of flooring is recycled. There are no invasive plants on the property and low flow faucets and fittings help conserve resources.
